Short biography

Mushthofa holds a Master's degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal and Technische Universität Wien, Austria (2009) in the framework of Erasmus Mundus program European Master's in Computational Logic. He is currently a PhD student under the joint supervision of Prof. Martine de Cock and Prof. Kathleen Marchal funded by the Nucleotides2Networks project, working on the implementation of Artificial Intelligence techniques (e.g. Fuzzy Answer Set Programming, machine learning) and their application to Bioinformatics.

I am conducting research at the intersection of knowledge representation & reasoning, machine learning and bioinformatics, comprising of two main parts:
(1) the use of logic-based frameworks to model and reason about biological networks and their behaviour,
(2) network-based machine learning approaches for feature selection/biomarker prediction and modelling of cancer drug response using genomic & transcriptomic data.
